All of us in the University of Arizona community are saddened that Christiana Duarte, one of our graduates from this past May, is among the victims from Las Vegas on Sunday night.

The University of Arizona Police Department has submitted the 2017 Annual Campus Safety, Security, and Fire Safety Report. These are important documents that help everyone on campus stay safe and informed, and I encourage you all to read them.

I have directed the University of Arizona to initiate an independent investigation into the alleged actions of Emanuel Richardson and to retain an external law firm to conduct the investigation. 

The federal guidance has changed. The University of Arizona’s commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our community has stayed the same and is as strong as ever.

The University of Arizona is urging Congress to deliver expedient legislative solution that provides all DACA students with certainty in fulfilling all of their educational potential. In concert with our governing board, the Arizona Board of Regents, we are providing all of the support possible to DACA students as permitted by law.

I was saddened to learn today about Senator John McCain’s brain tumor diagnosis. Arizona’s senior senator plays a pivotal role in the governance of our country and I am honored that I have had the privilege to discuss some of its most pressing matters with him and what the University of Arizona can do to help move us all forward.
