As you may know, Dr. Melissa Vito will be stepping away from her role as Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and Strategic Initiatives and will be moving into the private sector effective July 1, staying active in higher education outreach and advocacy.

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Moore as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. 

I wrote to you during the spring semester to express my concern regarding instances of sexual assault, relationship violence and discrimination on our campus and, more importantly, the University’s response to alleged incidents. At that time, I committed to ensuring that our approaches to education, prevention, adjudication and survivor support are exemplars across the country, while maintaining a consistent, fair and transparent process.

I am pleased to announce that we have launched a national search for our next Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost. This is an expanded and reimagined role that will provide leadership for our academic initiatives, research enterprise, and student affairs and enrollment efforts. A role of this scope and magnitude will require a visionary and highly collaborative leader committed to making the University of Arizona a destination for the world’s best thinkers and the nation’s top students. 

Please join me in congratulating Tony Proudfoot who has accepted a position as Vice President for Marketing and Strategic Communication at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. There, he will be responsible for repositioning the university to compete at a national level. He graciously has agreed to stay at the UA through June 22.
