Update on Campus Events May 10, 2024 Last night, the University of Arizona Police Department and partner agencies enforced the University’s campus use policy to remove an unauthorized encampment near Main Gate Square on the Tucson campus. I know that this decision may provoke strong opinions and perhaps questions, including any impact on graduation celebrations planned for today and this weekend. Celebrating the Class of 2024 May 6, 2024 This Friday, May 10, we will celebrate the Class of 2024 with the University of Arizona’s 160th Commencement. I look forward to this night every year, as we come together to send our graduates on to the next steps in their lives and careers. We have been through a lot as a community over the past four years, and I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to this graduating class, as well as all of our students, faculty, and staff. Tragic Loss of Student April 28, 2024 As some of you may already be aware, our Wildcat community suffered a tragic loss early this morning with the off-campus death of sophomore Erin Jones. Our deepest sympathies go out to Erin’s family in California and across the country, her friends, and her classmates in Tucson and Newport Beach, who are absorbing the heartbreaking news today. Glover Selected as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs April 26, 2024 After a thorough national search that included very strong candidates, I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Joseph Glover as the University of Arizona’s next Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents. Dr. Glover’s experience and priorities as a leader reflect our University values, and his track record of academic excellence, faculty support, and collaborative leadership will benefit our students, faculty, staff and community. University Updates: UAC and Cabinet First Meetings, Other Highlights March 28, 2024 Spring tends to be our busiest time of year, and this year is no exception. We recently held our first meetings of the University Advisory Council and the newly reconstituted President’s Cabinet, which provided opportunities for the two groups’ members to get to know each other and begin our dialogue about important topics, including our financial action plan.
