Presidential Advisory Commission Recommends Steps for UArizona's Continuing Leadership in Desert Agriculture

In December 2022, I commissioned a report on the future of agriculture and food production in Arizona as we address the threats posed by a drying climate. 

Today, the Presidential Advisory Commission on the Future of Agriculture and Food Production in a Drying Climate issued that report. The report provides a path forward for the University of Arizona and our state, which the authors have described as a “critical contributor to national food security.”

UArizona project will expand AZ HSI Consortium, support Hispanic students in STEM

UArizona Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives has launched Project LISTO to introduce Hispanic students to STEM majors and opportunities and provide a framework for other Hispanic-Serving Institutions to do the same.

Tragedy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

As many of you may already know, earlier today the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill suffered the loss of a faculty member in a fatal shooting on the school’s campus. UNC officials have not yet identified the victim or suspect, who is in custody.

While details of motive and circumstance are not yet known to the public, this tragic news from one of our peer institutions sadly echoes the loss of Dr. Thomas Meixner here in Tucson nearly a year ago.
