Transformational Gift for Study Abroad - Message to Employees
Dear colleagues,
I am very pleased to share some exciting news in the video below. Thanks to a transformational $20 million gift from the Garcia Family Foundation, we are creating new scholarships that will open the door for more of our students to study abroad.
This extraordinary gift will make it possible for students to immerse themselves in academic and cultural experiences that would otherwise be out of reach. It reflects our unwavering commitment to student success and will help us reach our goal of tripling study abroad participation by 2029. In addition to this investment in scholarships, we are enhancing academic advising and clarifying course equivalencies for students so that study abroad contributes to timely degree progression.
I am deeply grateful to Ernie and Joanne Garcia for funding these life-changing opportunities. In the weeks ahead, the university will launch a campuswide campaign to ensure students are aware of the new scholarships available. We hope you will join us in spreading the word and encouraging students to explore these opportunities.
This is what we mean when we say student success is our North Star, and I’m excited to see this campaign and the opportunities it enables come to life.
Thank you for all you do to support our students and our university community.
Best wishes,
Suresh
