Science at the South Pole
I am remembering with gratitude my December 2019 visit to Antarctica and the South Pole as a member of the National Science Board, the advisory body for the National Science Foundation. Over a week, we learned about the incredible research conducted by the NSF and its partners. The research conducted by NSF-funded scientists in Antarctica depends on international collaboration and partnership, as do many big scientific endeavors, especially when the work takes place in such extreme conditions. I came away amazed by the natural beauty around us and inspired by the shared human drive to study and understand our world.
The University of Vermont's Division of Strategic Communications published a Q&A with me upon my return, and more photos from the trip are also online. My thanks to the team there for sharing this memory.
