Governor Katie Hobbs’ Jan. 25 letter to the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) requested a report related to the establishment of the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC). Today, ABOR provided the report to the governor’s office, and I am pleased to share access to the report and cover letter with our campus community.

On Jan. 25, Governor Katie Hobbs sent a letter to the Arizona Board of Regents related to financial issues at the University of Arizona. Her correspondence addressed the importance of accountability, transparency and leadership. I wholeheartedly agree with her emphasis on these key points.

I am writing today to provide an update regarding the University’s financial action plan. I want to reiterate that our University is strong. However, to remain so, there are significant structural budget deficits and real challenges that must be addressed. Fixing these challenges will require timely, strategic and sometimes difficult decisions. We will address these challenges head on, implement effective solutions and keep our University on an upward trajectory.

I hope the first weeks of the spring semester have gone well for you. It has been a busy period at the University of Arizona, and I have updates on some important successes and continuing efforts.
