Update on Leadership Transitions

May 17, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

I am looking forward to the summer season at the University. Although we have fewer students on campus, our pace has not slowed. In that spirit, I would like to share an update on leadership transitions.

The UA Research, Discovery and Innovation (RDI) office will now report to the Office of the Provost. We have named Kimberly Ogden as Interim Vice President for Research, and she will lead RDI while the university conducts a national search for a new chief research officer.

Kim has been with the university for 25 years and is director of the UA Institute for Energy Solutions (IES). She has successfully advanced energy science, policy, and technology research and development. Kim understands first-hand the value of partnering with other research universities and industry. Through her extensive research in alternative fuels and bioproducts with collaborators in Engineering, Medicine and Agriculture, she creates sustainable products that impact economic development in Southwestern Arizona.

We expect to announce by the end of the month our Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. The search committee produced a pool of excellent candidates and for that, I am thankful. In addition, Provost Goldberg anticipates that the Dean for the College of Fine Arts will be named as early as this summer and the search for the Dean of College of Veterinary Medicine is underway.

This summer, we will continue to advance the strategic planning process, and pursue the leadership the UA needs to lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Thank you for all you do.

Sincerely,

Robert C. Robbins

President
