SUBJECT: Vice President Appointments

I am very pleased to share news that University of Arizona Vice President for Human Resources Allison Vaillancourt and Colleges of Letters, Arts and Science Executive Dean Joaquin Ruiz have accepted new, additional responsibilities.

Vice President Allison Vaillancourt has accepted the added role of vice president for institutional effectiveness. In her new role, Vice President Vaillancourt will use her expertise in research-based change management to engage various parts of the University community in identifying situations where carefully managed change, in alignment with UA strategic plan goals, strategies and implementation plans, will have maximum impact.

Colleges of Letters, Arts and Science Executive Dean Joaquin Ruiz has accepted the added role of vice president for innovation and strategy. Using his academic experience and creative skills, Executive Dean Ruiz will lead a task force comprised of senior, emeritus and junior to mid-career faculty and members of the deans’ advisory groups to brainstorm ideas and imagine new opportunities for cross-cutting collaborations across the intellectual landscape of the University. The task force will consider how best to position the UA within new scholarly frontiers, building on our strengths and imagining new, unbounded possibilities.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking Vice President Vaillancourt and Executive Dean and Vice President Ruiz for accepting these necessary and exciting challenges in addition to executing their current duties. I look forward to their unique contributions and to working with them in pursuit of ever greater excellence at the UA.
