SUBJECT: Special Advisor to the President for Public Outreach

I am pleased to announce that Tannya Gaxiola has joined the Executive Office of the President at the University of Arizona as Special Advisor to the President for Public Outreach.

Tannya brings a wealth of experience to this new position and has long been active in community affairs, with a particular focus on working with underserved communities. She currently serves as Chair of the Board for the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the City of Tucson's Immigrant Welcoming Task Force, the United Way Young Leader Society’s Executive Committee, and an advancement committee member of Accion Microfinance Services, a global nonprofit focused on creating "a financially inclusive world with access to economic opportunity for all."

Her professional experience mirrors these community activities; in 2009 she founded QuikHelp, which provides low-cost legal services to Southern Arizona's residents. Previously she worked for a number of finance and telecommunications corporations. A graduate of our own Eller College of Management, she also holds an MBA from Harvard University.

With her unique mix of corporate and community experience, Tannya will help the UA build lasting community partnerships throughout Southern Arizona and the world. These relationships will sustain this great University while ensuring that we meet the challenges of the 21st and 22nd centuries and that we do so in a way that meets the needs of our community and builds on its strengths.

Please join me in welcoming Tannya Gaxiola to the University of Arizona.
