Executive Office of the President
Policy Regarding Non-enrolled Minors
TO: All Employees
FROM: Ann Weaver Hart, President
DATE: September 3, 2013
SUBJECT: Policy Regarding Non-enrolled Minors
The University of Arizona is committed to providing a safe and secure educational environment for all who engage with us. Last year at this time I issued a memo reinforcing that commitment, requiring all of us who witness illegal or unethical conduct in any of our activities to report such conduct immediately.
The next significant step will be the introduction of an interim policy concerning the protection of non-enrolled minors on our campus and the responsibilities and oversight we expect from our employees who offer programs and opportunities for those children and youth.
The purpose of the interim policy is to provide those protections and initial protocols while we take the proposed policy through the formal process. There will be ample opportunity to review, discuss and comment on the proposed policy but, in the meantime, I want to ensure that we are clear on our commitment to the safety of all who work and learn here.
If you suspect or witness inappropriate or abusive behavior, please notify the UA Police at (520) 621-8273 or call 911 in an emergency. The University of Arizona owes a very high standard of diligence over programs involving youth and minors.
If you experience or witness discrimination or harassment, you should report the matter immediately. The University has several options for reporting concerns.
- Complaints about student misconduct may be directed to the Dean of Students Office at (520) 621-7057.
- Complaints related to faculty, staff, vendor or visitor misconduct may be directed to the Office of Institutional Equity at (520) 621-9449.
- Additionally, the University’s Ethics and Compliance Hotline provides the opportunity for reporting suspected ethics or compliance violations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and allows anonymous reports or concerns. The hotline has a toll-free number: (866) 364-1908.
Thank you for your continuing commitment to the safety and security of all members of our campus community.
