SUBJECT: The University of Arizona Names New General Counsel
Upon the successful completion of a national search, I am pleased to announce that Laura Todd Johnson has been named Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel. Ms. Johnson joined the Office of the General Counsel at the University of Arizona ten years ago, and in that time she has established a long and distinguished record of service. She will continue to represent the University in an exemplary manner in her new role. Ms. Johnson takes over from Deputy General Counsel Lynne Wood, who stepped up to serve in this key role last December. The University of Arizona is grateful to Ms. Wood for her dedicated service to the University during this critical time.

Ms. Johnson, a UA alumna, received her bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing in 1982, with high distinction; and later, in 1988, she earned her Juris Doctor, also with distinction, from the James E. Rogers College of Law. Her major areas of practice have been higher education, disability, and employment law. As an attorney with the UA Office of the General Counsel, she has advised the president, provost, and administrators on federal regulations, civil rights, shared governance, and policy development. She brings a wide array of legal expertise as an accomplished attorney. Please join me in congratulating her on her new role.
