I am pleased to announce that James A. Hyatt has accepted an appointment as Interim Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and CFO of the University of Arizona.

Mr. Hyatt will begin his role at the UA on July 1, serving as the University’s senior officer for business and finance, and will be responsible for university budgeting, business processes and relationships with university-related corporations, such as the Campus Research Corporation. He is currently a Senior Research Associate and Principal Investigator at UC Berkeley’s Center for the Study of Higher Education, and previously served in other finance and business leadership positions in higher education, including Vice Chancellor for Budget and Finance and CFO at UC Berkeley, and Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He has also worked as a principal investigator in a number of research projects related to higher education management and finance, and has published many single-author and collaborative books and articles.

With this expertise, Mr. Hyatt will be an effective steward for the University’s finances, and he will enable the kind of business and community partnerships that will allow faculty, students, and staff to develop new areas of expertise and excellence. Please join me in thanking Mr. Hyatt for agreeing to join the UA community as we conduct a national search for a permanent Senior VP for Business Affairs and CFO beginning this fall.
