Executive Searches Update

SUBJECT: Executive Searches Update
In August I announced several executive searches moving forward this fall at the UA. I write now to provide an update on the progress of these searches. Executive search firms are in place and moving along nicely for all the searches. The UA Health Network search for a new Chief Executive Officer is very near completion, and I am hopeful that I will be able to share additional information over the next month.
I also want to acknowledge and remind you of my most recent successful senior level hire, David N. Allen, Executive Director for Tech Launch Arizona. Dave arrived on campus on September 4th and has been doing a fantastic job in working to advance our technology engine forward working closely with deans, faculty and community experts in this field.
The search committees for the senior vice president for health sciences and the senior vice president for university relations are finalizing and disseminating position profiles and advertisements. These two advisory committees, along with key stakeholders for each position, have been engaged in sharing their perspectives and expectations regarding best candidate attributes. Witt/Kiefer is providing the expertise and facilitation for both of these critical UA posts. They are in the early stages of aggressive recruitment.
At the present time, the senior vice president for health sciences position advertisement is the only ad that has been posted and can be found at http://president.arizona.edu/topics/senior-vice-president-health-sciences.
This ad is also being posted with the Chronicle of Higher Education, New England Journal of Medicine, Association of American Medical Colleges, National Medical Association, National Hispanic Medical Association, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine and Witt/Kieffer. As the other searches post ads, the links and full position profiles will be listed on my website: http://president.arizona.edu/topics/appointments-and-searches-updated.
Storbeck/Pimentel is assisting in the search for the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. They are meeting with key stake holders next week. Advertisements for this position are currently being formulated and will appear shortly. All three search committees will be able to provide more detailed timelines for their progress soon.
Throughout the past month to six weeks, I have had multiple conversations and meetings with individuals and groups of faculty, appointed professionals, staff and students along with advisory committees regarding potential internal candidates. After thoughtful engagement and reflection, I am confident that it is appropriate to lift restrictions on any potential internal candidates interested in applying for these executive positions, including the interim provost.
