Campus Visit by Candidate for Senior Vice President for Research

I am writing with news that the next and final candidate for Senior Vice President for Research, Dr. Kimberly Andrews Espy, will visit campus March 19 – 21.  Her campus open forum is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 1:30 – 2:45 pm in the Student Union Rincon Room, and I encourage you to attend.

Dr. Espy is currently Vice President for Research and Innovation and Graduate Dean at the University of Oregon, where she is also Professor in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Special Education & Clinical Sciences. As Vice President for Research and Innovation, Dr. Espy has oversight responsibility for the University of Oregon’s $120 million research enterprise, which includes 19 interdisciplinary research centers and institutes, 9 research core facilities, and 6 campus offices for Research or Innovation Services. She also oversees research faculty and staff appointments.

Prior to her tenure at the University of Oregon, Dr. Espy was Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2005 to 2011. From 1996 to 2005 she was a faculty member in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine with a cross-appointment in the University’s Department of Psychology. Also at SIU she was Founding Director for the School of Medicine’s Center for Integrated Research in Cognitive and Neural Sciences. She also serves as an Executive Committee Member for the Council on Research Policy & Graduate Education at the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities.

Thank you for your participation in this process thus far. I hope that many of you attend this forum to provide input into the selection for this important leadership position at the UA.
