Over the past several months I have written about the importance of a university’s integration with the communities that it serves. If offering multiple points of access to higher education and using local roots to create global impact are vital ways that our research and teaching can advance the unique role and mission of public research universities, the translation of research through commercialization and community partnership is another critical way to ensure that the expertise and passion of university faculty benefits the broader communities of which we are a part.
